Rules

Here you will find the rules by which all basketball games during the tournament will be played.

FIBA Rules

We will play according to FIBA rules.

However, there will be some exceptions to these rules.

This means:

  • There will be no shot clock.
  • If fouled during a shot:
    • There will be no free throws.
    • Foul when shot is not scored: 1 point + ball possession.
    • Foul when shot is scored: 1 point + scored points (2 or 3).

Qualifying Rounds

  • Time: 2 x 12 minutes, running clock.
  • Timeouts: One timeout per team per half (duration: one minute).
  • Personal fouls: Three personal fouls per player permitted (fourth foul = disqualification from that game).
  • Team fouls: Six team fouls per half are permitted.
  • Bonus: All additional fouls after the sixth foul will result in a point being given to the other team.

Points

The following is how many points a team will be awarded based on the result of an individual game.

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 2 points
  • Loss: 1 point

In the event of a tie for places between two teams, first the result of the match between those two teams will be the deciding factor, then the overall number of points scored. If three teams tie, the overall number of points scored will decide place.

Variations in rules for the finals

  • Time: 2 x 15 minutes, running clock.
  • Personal fouls: Four personal fouls per player permitted (Fifth foul = disqualification from that game).
  • Team fouls: Seven team fouls per half are permitted.
  • Bonus: All additional fouls after the seventh will result in a point being given to the other team.
  • Timeouts: One timeout per team per half (one minute).
  • Overtime: There will be a five minute overtime in the event of a tie.

Each team is required to provide scorekeepers!

Please note that players, referees and volunteers participate in the tournament at their own risk. The organisers cannot be held liable for any injuries.
